Unknown facts about Search Engines
Did you conduct a Google search lately using your company name as keywords? Or, have you used keywords that best describe your business or those that you expect to rank well for? Do you have a professional SEO working on site rankings? Do you have a professional writer entrusting competitive keywords into your content in the right dosage?
There’s too much to be done as far as SEO is concerned, because you wouldn’t want to just float around on web space without getting noticed. The following parameters affect search engine rankings severely. Plan your SEO accordingly.
The search bots and spiders often pick up web pages having specific keywords. Make sure you know those keywords. The more near you are to the exact search queries conducted, the more are the chances of getting higher rankings. There’s been some modification to this rule recently and the search bots also pick up pages having related (secondary) keywords. If your desired keyword is “computers”, you should not only have enough of that particular keyword but also related keywords like “software”, “hardware”, “RAM” etc. A very good example of this would be the company Dell Computers. If you input a search query “computers”, the site would have top rankings even though that particular keyword is sparse on the site. This can mean only one thing. Your site should have the most comprehensive content to rank better. Gone are the days of SEOs trying to fool the search engines with content stuffed with keywords. The engines have realized that most often a user wouldn’t get the appropriate information on such sites. Hence this change of rule.
Improved and sophisticated algorithms have given the search bots some intelligence to separate the most relevant sites (matching user queries) from the not so relevant ones. Trust and authority rule the roost. A single link from an educational site (.edu) is given more weightage by the search engines as compared to two or three links from partner sites. You’ll come across sites having a bunch of keywords stacked at the end of web pages. These do rank well initially, but slip ranks lightning fast once the trick is discovered by the engines. Trying to fool the engines is considered a crime and you wouldn’t want to get caught red handed. Your site might get penalized as well.
The search spiders also go by the law books. Make sure your site confirms with the local laws to prevent getting penalized. Hosting pornographic sites is considered illegal in Germany and there have been instances of big porno sites getting pulled down by Google when the servers were traced back to Germany. This phenomenon gives out another useful information. Server location is also considered by the engines while displaying search results. You wouldn’t have much of luck if your site caters to US visitors and your server is located in Italy.
